ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (2023, INTERFINITY FESTIVAL)

In a captivating “game show,” a human composer faces off against AI compositions across five chapters. Each chapter presents two versions of a piece, and the audience is invited to guess which was composed by AI and which by a human. The compositions, inspired by the styles of Bach, Chopin, Messiaen, Bartók, and Brahms, are performed by a live ensemble—unaware of the origins of the pieces they play.
The "human" pieces are composed by Anna Sowa, Amador Buda, Tobias Krebs, Johannes Raiser, and Leonard Schick, while the renowned Latvian composer Platons Buravickis "crafted" the AI compositions. Stunning visual art by Luca Scarzella and Michele Innocente (Tinguely Entangled) enhances the performance.
The event is moderated and enriched by scientific interludes in collaboration with the Responsible Digital Society research network at the University of Basel. Following the performance, attendees can engage with AI experts—from ethicists to medical researchers—during an apéro (included in the ticket). The evening begins with an opening address by Government Councilor Conradin Cramer.
